New
York, Paris, Milan and London have long reigned supreme as the world’s
fashion capitols, but in just one short year Montreal has made a stunning
entry onto the Fashion week scene during the past two seasons. Montreal
and the province of Quebec have made their mark on the fashion industry
for years. Quebec is home to more than 1,300 garment manufacturers
that employ more than 70,000 workers and Montreal itself accounts for roughly
50% of Canada’s output. Their reputation as a production center is
well known, but the city has only recently begun to market itself as world-class
destination for haute couture.
Some designers, such as Marissa Minicucci, LUK, Body Bag by Jude and Parascuco have already made some inroads onto the international scene, but the past two seasons show there are multiple labels ready for fame and recognition. The designs of Nadya Toto, shown here, awed an audience populated by a who’s who of the world’s fashion media with her stylist designs and entertaining show. Rudsak, another Montreal institution, is at the forefront of a complete design line with there youthful clothing style and amazing collection of leather housewares with a distinctively French flair. The catalyst behind this stunning growth, besides the pure talent of the designers, is Lynda Brault, the coordinator and press agent for Semaine Mode Montreal. Under Lynda’s supervision, the inaugural fashion week was a stunning success with coverage across North America, but she surpassed her earlier accomplishments and by the time spring rolled around she had obtained major sponsorship from Mercedes, the governments of Quebec and Canada and numerous international clothing retailers. Montreal’s next presentation of designers takes place September 3rd – 6th in and around Centre-ville Montreal. |
