Jeanine Lobell of stila cosmetics
By Fashion Editor Timothy Kennard

Makeup artist Jeanine Lobell has been quite busy over the past few years with her work appearing on such notable magazines as Vanity Fair, In Style, Elle, and Mademoiselle with such notable clients as Natalie Portman, whom she considers a good friend, and Sandra Bullock.  As glamorous as this lifestyle sounds, her true love is the stila cosmetics line she’s created and her four kids, whom she tries to take on her cross country jaunts as often as possible.  Jeanine will be making an appearance this Wednesday at Filene’s Downtown crossing store at noon to launch her new make up counter.

Bostonfashion.com:  So is it fun working with all those Hollywood stars?

Jeanine Lobell:  Well, it is exciting and repeat clients are usually the people who I click with and get along with well, so yeah, it is fun.  They’ve become friends instead of clients.

Bostonfashion.com:  What’s the prevailing makeup trend for this season

JL:  Smoky eyes with browns, taupe and khaki green matched with nude lips.  Don’t put too much color on both the eyes and lips; it’ll overwhelm the face.  But you need to be careful not to do too much on your eyes.  If it goes past the edge of the eyes it can look really bad, but when it’s applied right it can carry you from the office to a night out.

Bostonfashion.com: What’s your suggestion for the one makeup product for the fall and winter?

JL: A three in one eye pencil.  We have a pen-shaped makeup ace that has an eye pencil on one end and a smudging tool on the other.  The middle twists open to reveal an eye shadow that's spring-activated to force the creamy color onto a sponge-tip applicator.

Bostonfashion.com:  How about you?  What do you personally prefer to wear on a daily basis for makeup?

JL:  I like to keep it clean.  A little eye concealer some mascara and I like the convertible eye color we carry.

Bostonfashion.com:  I noticed in your press release that you see a range of customer types.  Is there any one type of customer you shoot for?

JL:  I don’t believe in shooting for a “target customer.”  It’s kind of limiting, if you think about it.  There are so many kinds of women out there and I’d hate to limit myself like that.  I think everyone is looking for a timeless makeup product that has a shimmery, celebrity look.  If you’re looking for the makeup that’s right for you, I suggest walking around to the different counters in the stores and if you see someone working there that has the look you want, shop there.

Bostonfashion.com:  So what’s next for stila and Jeanine Lobell?
JL:  We’ll be coming out with a fragrance line this Spring and a skin care line in Fall 2002.
