Ovations for a Cure Director Lisa Tocci said she wanted the second annual Couture for Cancer event to be more trendy and to bring a little of Bryant Park to Boston. The scene very fitting; The Liberty Hotel, the crowd stylish and relevant; Gretchen Monahan and Joyce Kulhawik among fashionable guests; the designer elegant timeless evening gowns by New York Designer Carmen Marc Valvo.
Guests enjoyed cocktails and o'dourves among the walkways of the stylish Liberty Hotel before the show commenced. The runway show featured around 60 pieces from Carmen Marc Valvo spanning 20 years. Each piece was elegant and timeless. Every piece looked like it could have been designed today, fitting into today's style. You could not tell which pieces were designed 20 years ago or six months back.
The event painted a bigger picture in honor and memory of good friends Carol Arrick-Wells and Patty Franchi Flaherty who recently lost their battle against Ovarian Cancer. The event shed light on the importance of awareness, research, and early detection to help prevent future women from succumbing to the disease.
Anchoring the event with heart-felt speeches before the runway show were Carol Arrick-Wells family, NECN anchor Beth Shelburne, TV style guru and spa owner Gretta Monahan, art and entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik, Channel 5 reporter Kelley Tuthill and director of Ovations for a Cure Lisa Tocci.
Ovations hopes to build on this event and will be holding another big fashion orientated event in September called The Night of the Monarch Ball.
