After taking nominations for the best boutiques in the Boston area we narrowed it down to 10 and interviewed the owners/managers. For those looking for a unique one of a kind piece of clothing, with flavors from India love Aalok fashion. Pushpa, the store owner, is also the designer of many of the pieces in the store which creates exclusivity for the line. They describe their typical customer as someone who loves and appreciates the culture and history of India. This is not restricted to people from India as many of her customers come from all parts of the world as well as Americans. Although most of her customers consist of women, she carries children’s and men’s clothing as well.

 

Both the designer and owner of the store, Anne Reagan hopes to make women feel great about themselves and give them pretty, flattering, well fit clothing. She doesn’t believe in letting customers walk out of the store unless they look good. Aside from her own line, Anne also carries a few lines from LA, New York and France. She describes the store as a girlie oasis, all pink, that women love when they come in because she coordinates everything and makes it easy for the shoppers.

Antonio Ansaldi specializes in customized leather apparel as well as ready to wear garments for women, men, children and pets. They currently sell the designs worldwide and describe their customer as someone who is looking for a hard to find brand that is not over saturated. His customers include high-profile celebrities and entertainers such as Tom Brady, Mike Tyson, Puff Daddy and Mariah Carey. They pride themselves in quality apparel that isn’t just for one specific genre but rather for anyone that appreciates it- any color, any gender- “if you like their clothing than it’s there for you.”

 

 

The Denise Hajjar line caters to an upscale clientele of mostly affluent working women who want beautiful clothing. They have been in business for 27 years and provide value to their customers by giving them clothing that they cannot find elsewhere. The customers love the fabrics and colors of the line as well as the fit of the garment on a regular woman. The line is fresh but a little edgy, they always have something different from what one would normally see in a department store.

Femme de Carriere offers high end Italian designer clothing for a good price. They target young professionals that go in the work field and want to look good and look successful. The customers that shop there have a need for sophisticated, timeless, classic clothing. They pride themselves in customer service, claiming that they train their employees for 6 months in order to ensure that they are very customer oriented and understand the fit of the clothing and the various styles. They offer suits, dressy attire, casual attire and evening attire.

Women who shop at French Dressing Lingerie love the atmosphere. They often come in looking for a good basic t-shirt bra but often come out with a variety of styles. The mission of the boutique is to create a nice atmosphere for people to come in and try on different styles of lingerie. They like to pamper their customers and describe the women that come in as someone between the ages of 25-60 who feels good about themselves. Even if they are not happy when they come in the store, they most often times come out feeling great.

 

Owner of Horror Business, Troy Schoeller, aims to provide the Allston underground scene with their gear and music. Many of the people that come into the store consist of artists, musicians, and people who are into darker stuff like horror movies. The customers love the atmosphere of the store which has a fluorescent color scheme of green and purple and pictures of local musicians. In order to support the local scene they sponsor a lot of shows and independent films.

 

The goal of Injeanius is to guide women through the jean buying process and help them select jeans that fit their body and style preference. Their customers range from teens to women in their 50’s and 60’s and aside from jeans they also carry a wide range of tops. Owner of Injeanius, Alison, describes their differentiating factor to be the ability to help their customer find the perfect fit. The staff has a keen knowledge of being able to match the fit of a jean with a particular body type which ensures that the customers leave the store looking great.

 

As a new store that only opened in October of last year, Lint has already made a name for itself among the Brighton area’s trendy youth. People love the clothing that they offer at prices that are affordable to the young adult market. The customers that typically shop there range from teens all the way up through college and older. They provide clothing by hip brands such as Salvage and Paper Denim at competitive prices. Aside from offering their clothing in the boutique, people are also able to go online and shop at their online store.

 

Waheeda Ali-Salaam, one of the designers of OKW, believes in producing beautiful clothing for every type of body. OKW clothing is classic, with unusual fabrics, and the designers do their best to give a really good fit, paying close attention to color. They produce two collections per year but also do custom designs as well. They have been around for 21 years and pride themselves in taking good care of their customers in a non-aggressive way. They give suggestions when asked and do all the leg work, including delivery, in order to go above and beyond expectations.
